What do you need as a speedcuber?

You bought your first speedcube and now you are fully engaged in “speedcubing. You may have even taken a course at cubing-academy and learned a lot about solving a cube here. Now this takes a lot of time and patience, but … practice makes perfect. Once you know how to unravel a cube, of course you want to get faster and faster and set a better time. Then other things come into play, which is why we tell you what you really need.

A decent speedcube
As you may know, you have speedcubes from €4.99 and also from €150! When you start, it doesn’t matter so much and it’s mostly about solving the cube. So if you want to get faster, you could look at a magnetic speedcube. All magnetic speedcubes, for example, already pull your speedcube in the right direction and this saves time! In fact, every millisecond is 1😉. If you find it hard to choose, we can tell you that we mainly sell lots of speedcubes from GAN, MoYu & QiYi.

Timer
A timer is used to measure your resolution time. How does this work? You turn it on, dissolve your cubus and press right back on! There are several timers available specifically designed for speedcubing, such as the Gan Timer and the MoYu Timer. There are also a variety of speed cube mats available, so your cube lands softly and you won’t get scratches on your speed cube.

Lubricant for your cube
To make the movement of the cube smoother, it is nice to sometimes use a lubricant. In doing so, be very careful how you use them. Use 1 drop first and give your speedcube a good whirl. Next, it is best to let your cube stand for a while so that the lubricant can soak in for a while. If after that you find that your cube is still not spinning smoothly, you can always repeat this process with another drop of lubricant.

Storage pouch or bag
Of course, this is very handy to store your speedcube and accessories and take them easily to competitions or cube sessions with friends, for example. It also keeps your cubes neat. This is because it prevents dirt from getting into the cube and also prevents unsightly scratches. A great example of this is the QiYi bag.
